Five hundred years later, Guanyin Bodhisattva received the decree of the Buddha and brought with her five treasures, including the brocade kasaya, and went to the East Land of the Great Tang with Hui An monk to find the one who would go to the West Heaven to obtain the true scriptures. The two masters and disciples rode on clouds in the air and came to the sky above Chang’an, the capital of the Great Tang. It was already the thirteenth year of Zhenguan.
On this day, it was the day that Tang Taizong Li Shimin ordered the high monk Chen Xuanzang to set up an altar in Huasheng Temple and preach the Buddhist teachings. Chen Xuanzang was the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi, the second disciple of the Buddha. Guanyin secretly chose him as the one who would obtain the scriptures, and she and Hui An monk disguised themselves as wandering monks, holding the kasaya and other treasures to the palace gate, asking to see Tang Taizong and offer him the treasures.
Tang Taizong always liked Buddhist scriptures, and immediately called them to the hall, asking how much money they wanted for those treasures. Guanyin said: “The Buddha has three baskets of true scriptures in West Heaven. If you send Chen Xuanzang to West Heaven to obtain the true scriptures, these treasures will be given to you.” After saying that, she and Hui An monk changed back to their original appearance, rode on clouds and left. Taizong saw that it was Guanyin Bodhisattva, and quickly led all the civil and military officials to bow to the sky.
