Wukong was very happy when he heard this. He followed Great White Plane to heaven again. The Jade Emperor immediately ordered someone to build a Great Sage Equal to Heaven mansion for Sun Wukong on the right side of the Peach Garden. Sun Wukong was a monkey after all. He only cared about his reputation and did not ask about his power. He called the gods brothers every day, eating, drinking and having fun in his mansion. He traveled east today and west tomorrow, free and easy.
As time went by, the Jade Emperor was afraid that Wukong would cause trouble if he had nothing to do. He let him manage the Peach Garden. There were one thousand two hundred peach trees in the front, middle and back of the garden. The trees in front bore fruit every three thousand years, and eating them could make one an immortal; the trees in the middle bore fruit every six thousand years, and eating them could make one live forever; the trees in the back bore fruit every nine thousand years, and eating them could make one shine like the sun and moon, and live as long as heaven and earth.
One day, he saw that most of the peaches in the garden were ripe. He wanted to taste something fresh. He sneaked into the garden, took off his clothes, climbed up a big tree, and picked ripe big peaches to eat until he was full. From then on, every two or three days, he would find a way to steal some peaches. The annual Peach Banquet was coming. One day, seven fairy maidens came into the garden to pick peaches by order of Queen Mother.
