Wukong turned around and wanted to run, but the Buddha was quick and agile. He pushed Wukong out of the West Heaven Gate with a backhand, and turned his five fingers into five mountains of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth. He named this mountain range “Five Elements Mountain” and pressed Wukong firmly under it. The gods in heaven and Anuo and Jiaye clapped their hands and praised him.
The Jade Emperor saw that the Buddha had subdued Sun Wukong. He was very happy. He immediately ordered to set up a “Peaceful Heaven Banquet” to thank the Buddha. In a moment, all the immortals were invited. The Jade Emperor also ordered to open Taixuan Palace and Dongyang Jade Pavilion. He invited the Buddha to sit on the Seven Treasures Platform. The immortals from all directions brought gifts. The Buddha ordered Anuo and Jiaye to accept them one by one.
Just as the immortals were drinking and singing, the inspector came back and reported: “The demon monkey has stuck his head out!” The Buddha heard this and took out a piece of paper from his sleeve. It read: “Om Mani Padme Hum”. He told Anuo and Jiaye to paste it on a square stone on top of Five Elements Mountain. The crack of the mountain closed immediately. Sun Wukong had no way out.
When the Buddha returned to the West Heaven, he passed by Five Elements Mountain. He felt compassion and called the mountain god. He asked him and the five Yashas to live on this mountain and guard Wukong. He said to them: “If he is hungry, give him some iron pills to eat. If he is thirsty, give him some melted copper water to drink. After five hundred years, his sentence will be over. Someone will naturally come to save him.”
