Chapter 7: At Gao Laozhuang, Tang Monk recruits Zhu Bajie (Pigsy).

Sun Wukong wanted to play with him, so he stood still, and no matter how the monster hit him, Sun Wukong’s scalp didn’t even turn red. The monster hit him hard, and sparks flew everywhere. He was scared and said: "What a head! What a head! You were supposed to be in the Water Curtain Cave on the Flower Fruit Mountain, how did you get here? Did my father-in-law invite you here?"

Sun Wukong said: “No, I have reformed myself, and I’m protecting Tang Sanzang on his journey to the west. We passed by here…” The monster heard the word “journey” and “clap” dropped his rake, clasped his hands and said: “Please introduce me to him. I was persuaded by Guanyin Bodhisattva. She told me to wait for you here. I’m willing to follow Tang Sanzang to the west, and make up for my sins.”

The two of them set fire to the Cloud Stack Cave, and Sun Wukong tied the monster’s hands behind his back, and took him back to Gao Lao Zhuang. The monster knelt in front of Tang Sanzang and told him how Guanyin Bodhisattva had advised him to do good. Tang Sanzang was very happy, and asked Sun Wukong to untie him. He also asked Gao Taigong to bring out incense burner and candlesticks, and thanked Guanyin. He also gave him a Buddhist name called Zhu Wuneng, also known as Zhu Bajie(Pigsy).

Gao Taigong also prepared a set of monk’s clothes, shoes, and hat for Zhu Bajie to wear. When they were leaving, Bajie repeatedly told him: “Father-in-law! Please take good care of my wife. If I can’t get the scriptures, I’ll have to return to secular life. Don’t give my wife to someone else!” Sun Wukong laughed and scolded him for talking nonsense. Bajie said: “I’m leaving a way out for myself!”
