Sun Wukong flew back to the hall, just in time to meet a little demon who came to report: “Great King, there is only one long-mouthed big-eared monk sitting in the woods. The hairy-faced monk is gone. Maybe he has gone to get reinforcements.” The old demon said: “What are you afraid of? I’m not afraid of anyone except Lingji Bodhisattva!” Sun Wukong heard this, and was overjoyed in his heart.
He flew out of the Yellow Wind Cave, and returned to his original shape. He came to the woods and told Bajie everything he had heard. But where to find Lingji Bodhisattva? As they were discussing, they saw an old man walking out of the road. Sun Wukong quickly bowed and asked: “Excuse me, old man, do you know where Lingji Bodhisattva lives?”
The old man said: “Lingji Bodhisattva lives in the Small Mount Sumeru in the south.” He pointed his hand to the south, and Sun Wukong looked south along his finger. The old man had already turned into a breeze and disappeared, leaving a note. It turned out that Taibai Jinxing was secretly helping him. Sun Wukong asked Bajie to hide in the deep forest and wait for him, while he went to find Lingji Bodhisattva.
Sun Wukong flew straight south with a somersault, and soon saw a high mountain surrounded by colorful clouds. There was a quiet Zen temple in the valley, with solemn bell sounds from time to time. The air was filled with fragrance. He landed on a cloud head, walked to the door, and saw a Taoist. He hurriedly bowed and learned that this was where Lingji Bodhisattva preached.
