Lingji Bodhisattva heard the announcement and immediately came out to greet Sun Wukong. Sun Wukong explained his purpose, and the bodhisattva said: “I have received the decree of the Buddha to suppress the Yellow Wind Monster here. I caught him before, but I didn’t kill him. I put him in the mountain and forbade him to harm living beings. I didn’t expect that he was still wicked and hurt your master. I will definitely help you.”
Lingji Bodhisattva took out a wind-stopping pill, and also took a flying dragon treasure staff, and rode on a cloud with Sun Wukong to the Yellow Wind Mountain. He asked Sun Wukong to go to the mountain gate and challenge, lure the Yellow Wind Monster out. Sun Wukong got off the auspicious cloud, waved his golden cudgel and broke the cave door. The old demon was very angry, raised his fork and stabbed at Sun Wukong’s chest.
Sun Wukong held his cudgel to parry, and didn’t fight for long. The old demon opened his mouth and wanted to blow wind again. Lingji Bodhisattva in mid-air threw down his flying dragon treasure staff, which turned into a golden dragon with eight claws. It stretched out two claws, grabbed the old demon, lifted his head and smashed it on the cliff. The monster revealed his original form: a yellow-haired weasel.
Sun Wukong raised his cudgel and wanted to hit him, but Lingji Bodhisattva stopped him and said: “Wait, he was originally a mouse at the foot of Mount Lingshan. He ran away here and became a demon because he was afraid of being caught by the vajra for stealing the clear oil from the glass lamp. Now that he has revealed his original form, let me take him to see the Buddha and see how to deal with him for harming Tang Monk. Sun Wukong, do you think this is okay?”
